The company was founded in 1929 by Shri Dharampal ji. His motivation for starting the company was led by the sole intention of reviving the grand-old Indian tradition of Zarda and thus started his tobacco journey from a small shop in Chandni Chowk. Today, as one of the oldest home-grown brands in India, BABA has carried the Indian Paan tradition through nine decades of leadership in the industry.
Anyone even mildly associated with Paan, Flavoured Chewing Tobacco or Pan Masala, knows about BABA and its rich heritage. The company has established industry standards for the manufacturing of chewing tobacco by providing premium quality products over the last 90 years.
Who we are?
Our success lay in being able to anticipate a ready market for premixed zarda. Spotting an opportunity, Dharampal Premchand launched his pioneering venture to create a new industry, from annual net sales of about Rs. 5000 in the early years to recording a growth of 1000% in 1948. The company has continued to grow by leaps and bounds since then. Dharampal Premchand Ltd (DPPCL) has been a pioneer of the chewing tobacco business in India.
Dharampal Premchand is a name that has crossed the borders of India and reaches out to homesick Indians across the globe who still crave for a pinch of the potent powder.
The company ventured cautiously into the export market in 1971 and has not looked back since. With a turnover of more than Rs. 500 crores, DPPCL is the promoting company of the flagship brand BABA.
Who made us?
Shri Dharampal Ji (1901 - 1964)
The birth of a legend Shri Dharampal Ji marked the dawn of a new era on January 1 st , 1901. An era when the nation would experience the taste of independence.
Beginning with a modest perfume shop in Chandni Chowk, in the heart of Delhi, Shri Dharampal Ji, was adding his personal touch in spreading fragrance to the nation. A self-starter and a visionary, he was farsighted to conceive the impossible.
Shri Premchand Ji (1922 - 1976)
Shri Premchand Ji's association with Shri Dharampal Ji started in 1950. The iconic launch of the BABA brand in 1964 under the guidance of Shri Premchand Ji became the first of many milestones of the company.
As the company's first Chairman and Managing Director, Shri Premchand Ji set the example for lifelong services and devotion to its customers.
Shri Satyapal Ji Sugandhi (1929 - 1995)
Shri Satyapal Ji was a visionary who made everything possible. He inherited high virtues and the aspiration to be the best in one's own business from his father. His in-depth knowledge of perfumes honoured him with the title of "Sugandhi" (Perfumer).
Shri Satyapal Ji was skilled at blending tradition with modernity. He is credited with blending chewing tobacco with exquisite perfumes. He is also known for bringing the element of quality and research, hitherto unknown in this category. Today, all our endeavours are guided by his mission of offering the unmatched.
